Luke 9:57-58 (NKJV) Now it happened as they journeyed on the road, that someone said to Him, “Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.” And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”
In Jesus’ answer to the young man, our Lord Jesus Christ revealed His own poverty when He was on earth. Many of us are like the young man. We are self-confident, excessively eager, and unaware of the cost to follow Jesus. To follow Jesus means to forsake the comforts of life. We have to get out of our comfort zones in order to follow Jesus. We cannot follow Jesus and have it our way. We cannot have more than one master. We cannot call Jesus our Lord and not surrender our lives to Him. If Jesus is our Lord, then we cannot run our own lives according to our will, and be ruled by our fleshly desires and worldly desires. Following Jesus may mean we have to give up relationships, give up our dreams, give up material things, or even give up our lives. When we follow Jesus, what we possess must not possess us. We must be able to give up those things we consider to be our inalienable rights. We cannot belong to this world and to Jesus at the same time. We have to make a choice. We cannot serve two masters. When we chose to follow Jesus, we are giving Him control of our lives. My friend, if you are going to follow Jesus, then count the cost of following Him.
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
