Proverbs 15:4 (NKJV) A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, But perverseness in it breaks the spirit.

Our tongue can get us in a lot of trouble, and it can get us out of trouble as well. Our tongue can be a blessing with wholesome, gracious speech that refreshes, soothes and revives the spirit. Or it can be a curse with perverse and malicious talk that breaks the spirit. It takes a deliberate effort and lots of prayers to tame the tongue. In fact, only the Holy Spirit can help us to tame our tongues. Why? Because “no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison” (James 3:8 NKJV). And the only way to receive the help of the Holy Spirit is to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. You need the power of the resurrected Christ within you to control your tongue. For by our own will we cannot tame our tongues, but with God all things are possible. As we trust in Christ, and submit to the transforming power of the Holy Spirit, and yield to God in obedience, God controls us more and more, including our tongues. It is so important to tame our tongues. Because “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21 NKJV). Our tongue can be used to share the gospel of Christ, the message of salvation, and this will give life. And our tongue can be used to drive people away from God, and in this application, it is an instrument of death. My friend, we need to be careful with the way we use our tongue, for we love to talk, we love to express ourselves, we love to use our tongue a lot. But depending on how we use it, either we will be rewarded or we will face the consequences. Either it will lead people to Christ or it will drive them away from God. “With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so” (James 3:9-10 NKJV). Therefore, we are directed to tame our tongue, to “Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips from speaking deceit” (Psalm 34:13 NKJV). This is a description of a tamed tongue, one that is free from evil and deceit. And it is something I need to have through the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. Perhaps you also need it my friend.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
