Acts 1:10-11 (NKJV) And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”
Jesus now glorified, ascended into heaven. And we are told that Jesus will return in the same manner and to the same place. But there is a sharp contrast in the purpose of Christ’s first coming and His second coming. Christ is coming soon and very soon. “And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, Which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, From east to west, Making a very large valley; Half of the mountain shall move toward the north And half of it toward the south” (Zechariah 14:4 NKJV). The Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven from the Mount of Olives, and He will return to that same place with great power and glory. Jesus will return on the clouds of heaven for all to see, and He will set up His kingdom here on earth. When will this happen? It will happen in the Day of the Lord. In the period of time when Israel will be in great trouble. When Jerusalem will be besieged and taken for the last time. And their help will come from the East, from the Mount of Olives. The Lord Jesus Christ will come from the East to liberate and redeem His people. Our Lord Jesus Christ will personally intercede for the faithful remnant of Israel to fulfill the Father’s will. The Day of the Lord is imminent, it is close at hand and it is coming. The divine judgement of the Lord is near. The heathen will receive the full fury of God’s wrath. “Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God” (Revelation 19:15 NKJV). But what are we as Christians ought to be doing while waiting for Christ’s return? Obviously, it is not standing around and gazing up into heaven. We must be actively carrying out God’s work to share the message of salvation, the gospel of Christ, the love of Jesus, to preach the good news to all who will hear. We ought to be productive and live life to the fullest to glorify God.
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
