Luke 10:1-2 (NKJV) After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go. Then He said to them, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

Luke tells us that the Lord sent out seventy disciples to prepare the way for His ministry. Their work was for a limited time, and their office was temporary. Why? Because Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. Jesus looks out upon the world which is ripe unto harvest, and He says to His disciples “pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” What exactly is our task in the Lord’s harvest? It is to sow the seed of the Word of God into the hearts of those whose hearts have been prepared by the Holy Spirit of God to receive God’s Word. And we are to nourish it so that the Word of God will take root in their hearts and grow towards maturity. And bear much fruit. Our business is sowing and nurturing as a farmer who tends to his crop in expectation of a great harvest. The harvest belongs to the Lord. And He is returning one day to gather up all who belongs to Him. While we wait for Christ’s return, we ought to be sowing seed today, and when Christ returns there will be a harvest. For the Lord has said “Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn”” (Matthew 13:30 NKJV). The harvest belongs to the Lord. And our business, which is only for a time because the Lord Jesus Christ is coming again, our business as Christians is to sow the seed which is the Word of God.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
