James 5:14-16 (NKJV) Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

“And the prayer of faith will save the sick.” When we are sick, we are to call on God’s people to pray for us. And God shall heal us according to His will. But sickness can come about through sin as well. Meaning to say that God can use it to chastise us in order to bring us back into fellowship with Him. If this is the case for us, and we would know because the Holy Spirit of God will convict us of it, then we ought to confess our sins to the Lord and confess our faults to those who we have wronged. Then the Lord will heal us according to His will. Now, if our sin is against the local church, that is the church we are attending, and we have publicly testified falsely against one member of the church or more or the entire assembly, then we are to publicly confession our sins and confess our faults to those who we have wronged in the presence of the elders of the church. Then the Lord will raise us up. Now, when we sin against someone who is not a member of the church we are attending, then we need to promptly confess our sin to the Lord and confess our fault to the person we have wronged. Then the Lord will raise us up. Are you seeing a pattern here my friend? However, not all sickness can be contributed to sin in our lives, but when we are convicted by the Holy Spirit of God that our sickness is being used by God to bring us back into fellowship with Him, then we are to confess our sins to the Lord and confess our faults to the person or persons we have wronged. And we are to call on other brothers and sisters in Christ to pray for us. And in response to the prayer of faith, God will heal us because we have the complete assurance of His promise to raise us up when we confess our sins. For “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9 NKJV). We confess our sins to the Lord because only God can forgive sins. But we confess our faults to those who we have wronged. These are the conditions for healing when our sickness is being used by God to bring us back into fellowship with Him. But rather if our sickness is a result of our sins or not, “the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” When we are sick, we are to call upon our brothers and sisters in Christ to prayer for us, because “the prayer of a man whose heart is right with God works wonders.”

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
