Psalm 102:1-2 (NKJV) Hear my prayer, O Lord, And let my cry come to You. Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my trouble; Incline Your ear to me; In the day that I call, answer me speedily.
These verses of Psalm 102 can be seen as the Lord Jesus Christ’s prayer to God the Father. It is a prayer where Jehovah prays to Jehovah! The Lord Jesus came in humiliation; yet He was Jehovah manifested in the flesh. And in humiliation, Jesus prays for His great work as our sin bearer to be accomplished. Just as it was foretold in Zechariah 13:7 (NKJV): ““Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd, Against the Man who is My Companion,” Says the Lord of hosts. “Strike the Shepherd, And the sheep will be scattered; Then I will turn My hand against the little ones.” And God the Father heard His prayer. The prophecies we see here relates to both the first and second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ first coming, He came as our sin bearer, our substitute on the Cross, for the forgiveness of our sins. Just as it is said in Zechariah 12:10 (NKJV): ““And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.” The Lord Jesus Christ was smitten for our sins that through Him we may be reconciled with God. But when the Lord Jesus Christ returns, He will come as a Judge, to those who remain in their sins. And the Lord Jesus Christ will gather the faithful remnant of Israel, for they will say “‘What are these wounds between your arms?’ Then he will answer, ‘Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends’” (Zechariah 13:6 NKJV). And they shall mourn for Him, as one mourns for his only son. The second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ will be a day of judgment and a great Day of Atonement for the Jewish people. The first coming of the Lord Jesus Christ is the reason we celebrate Easter. For the holy and righteous wrath of God the Father fell upon His only begotten Son because the Lord Jesus Christ bore my sins and your sins, that we may live in the resurrected Christ.
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
