Ecclesiastes 9:11-12 (NKJV) 11 I returned and saw under the sun that—The race is not to the swift, Nor the battle to the strong, Nor bread to the wise, Nor riches to men of understanding, Nor favor to men of skill; But time and chance happen to them all. 12 For man also does not know his time: Like fish taken in a cruel net, Like birds caught in a snare, So the sons of men are snared in an evil time, When it falls suddenly upon them.

Solomon tells us that life without God is a matter of time and chance. For without God there is no real purpose in life. Life without God is simply all about chance, and nothing can be done about it. That is a hopeless thought. When all you have to depend on is luck and chance, then bad luck can happen at any time. If luck and chance are guiding your life, then surely there will be times of bad luck. You are simply helpless. It is fatalism at its worst. This fatalistic philosophy is all there is for those without Christ. However, we who are in Christ gain strength and confidence from the sovereignty of God in our lives for His own perfect purposes. Nothing is random or comes by chance for a child of God. God has resolved to do what He will do. He is a powerful and purposeful God who is in control of everything. And man’s free will cannot alter the sovereignty of God. Not even Satan and his demons can thwart God’s plans. No one can keep God’s plan from fruition. God purposed it from before the foundation of the world and it will come to pass exactly as He has foreordained it for His own good purposes and plans. Knowing that God works all things together for our good (Romans 8:28) should remove our fears. But for us to trust in God’s sovereign control and to rest in it, we must know God. We must know God’s attributes. We must know that God is good. We must know that God is love. We must know that God is merciful. We must know that God is compassionate. We must know that God is faithful. We must know that God is holy. We must know that God is righteous. We must know what God has done in past. When we know God, then we can rejoice in God’s sovereignty. But we can’t know God if we do not have Christ. For the only way to God the Father is through His Son Jesus Christ. Have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior? Jesus is the only way to the Father my friend. We cannot approach the Father without the Son. We must have Jesus. When we accept the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, as our Savior we are instantly filled with the Holy Spirit of God, and brought into union with Christ and other believers in the body of Christ. We can rejoice in the sovereignty of God because of our intimate relationship with Jesus Christ, His Son. We can trust completely in God the Father who controls all things for His perfect purpose when we have Christ.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
