1 Peter 4:8 (NKJV) And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”
The Apostle Peter is talking about our relations as followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. He says “And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”” Peter is echoing Proverbs 10:12 (NKJV) which says “Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins.” Hatred, and even a little ounce of discontentment, in the hearts of believers will stir up strife. It is human nature to gather with people who think like you do. And because of our human nature, sooner or later, this little clique will be against that little clique, and vice-a-versa. All these little cliques will be against one another. These people gossip, backstab and just simply devourer each other up. It is a sad thing, but it is the result of believers living under legalism and under the idea that they have a license to do whatever they want to do. It is the result of living according to the flesh. And that is not how to live the Christian life. For we have been given a new nature in Christ. This is how love covers up a multitude of faults and failings of other believers. Rather than tearing other believers down, we protect them. For as someone once said “Hatred makes the worst of everything. Love is entitled to bury things out of sight.” However, true love for one another can only be expressed when we exercise liberty in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. For it is grace that frees us from doing wrong and allows us to do what is right. When we no longer live for ourselves, but live for Christ who dwells within us, then my friends we can live the Christian life. When we are abiding in Christ, and He is abiding in us, then we have the love of Christ in our hearts. And the love of Christ will enable us to overlook minor faults and even huge failures in other believers. The love of Christ enables us to forgive one another, and to have a fervent love for one another.
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
