John 16:31-33 (NKJV) 31 Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe? 32 Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. 33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
Soon the Lord Jesus Christ would be taken into custody and crucified. And Jesus’ disciples would all scatter. They would not dare to come near Him for fear of their own lives. Jesus would be alone. And yet Jesus was not alone, for the Father is with Him. “That is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation” (2 Corinthians 5:19 NKJV). This is one of the great mysteries and great truth. “And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”” (Mark 15:34 NKJV). The explanation is given to us in Psalm 22:3 (NKJV): “But You are holy, Enthroned in the praises of Israel.” The Lord Jesus Christ, God the Son was made sin for us, so that He could pay the penalty for our sins. When the sins of the world were poured out on the perfect Lamb of God, God looked away. But at that very moment, God was reconciling the world unto Himself. This is the great mystery and great truth of the Triune Godhead: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Three distinct persons in the Triune Godhead. Yet one God. This is a great mystery and great truth that our finite minds cannot fully understand. My friends, we do not have enough brain cells to comprehend the redemption that God worked out on the Cross for us. The Triune Godhead, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, but one God. We simply cannot fully understand it. But we will have all of eternity to understand something new and wonderful about the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. And in this life, we who believe can have peace because our peace is found in our Savior Jesus Christ. Let’s be clear about this. Peace is only found in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus made it very clear when He said: “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulations.” You can’t find peace in the world. Only in the Lord Jesus Christ will you find real and everlasting peace. Because Jesus has overcome the world. The Lord Jesus Christ’s victory on the Cross is our victory. Through Christ alone, we can live a victorious life by letting Him live in us. When we learn to identify ourselves with Christ and come into close fellowship with Jesus, then we will begin to experience the peace of God in our hearts. And we will be of good cheer. Although there is trouble in the world, our lives will be filled with joy because Christ lives within us.
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
