Isaiah 9:6-7 (NKJV) 6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
The first coming of God the Son, Jesus Christ, is described for us in verse 6a: “For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given.” This speaks of Jesus’ humanity, and Christ’s deity. The next part of verse 6 points forward to Jesus Christ’s second coming. Christ will reign as King of kings and Lord of lords. Now see the names that are given to our Lord Jesus Christ. These names speak of His Person and work. His name will be called Wonderful. The Jews will trust Him as Savior, and they will call Him Wonderful. For Christ will put down all rebellions when He comes to earth the second time. He is going to reign over the entire earth. And He will be called Counselor, for all the inhabitants of the world comes to Him for help. Because our Lord Jesus Christ is Mighty God, El Gibbor. All power in heaven and in earth is given to Him by God the Father. Christ is the omnipotent God, and He is the supreme Ruler of the earth. And He will be called Everlasting Father, for He is eternal, He is the Creator of all things, and He gives eternal life to those who believes in Him. And He will be called Prince of Peace, for when Christ comes again, He will bring peace to this troubled world. The Lord Jesus Christ will put down all His enemies at His second coming, and He will cast them into the lake of fire. And all who believes in Him will enjoy peace. The Lord Jesus Christ will sit on the throne of David. And justice will be dominant in His Millennial Kingdom and for all eternity. God’s zeal and care for His people will accomplish this.
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
