Colossians 3:12-15 (NKJV) 12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

In verse 12, the Apostle Paul tells us some practical ways in which we can put on the new man, meaning our new character in Christ. First of all, we ought to remember who we are, we are the elect of God. We are God’s children. God has chosen us before the foundation of the world; for we have decided to follow Jesus Christ His Son as our Lord and Savior. In Christ we are sanctified and set apart to God from the world. We are positionally holy in Christ and therefore, we should be practically holy in our daily lives. Why? Because God loves us. And these are the garments of grace that we ought to put on each and every day: tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, and longsuffering. Notice that none of these attributes of grace has to do with self-assertiveness and self-interest. They have nothing to do with self at all. When we empty ourselves of self, then it is possible for us to bear one another’s short comings and odd ways, and to forgive one another just as Christ has forgiven us. It takes the grace of God for us to get along and work together and live with one another in the body of Christ. And most importantly, to hold these garments of grace together, we ought to put on the love of Christ. Love binds all of these Christian virtues together. Love is important above all. Just as Paul had said: “And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing” (1 Corinthians 13:2 NKJV). With the love of Christ express these virtues of grace so that in our relationships with one another, we do things in a genuine spirit of love for one another. For the love of Christ within us is the bond of perfection.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
