2 Samuel 22:34 (NKJV) He makes my feet like the feet of deer, And sets me on my high places.

Feet like the deer or gazelle; meaning having agility, swiftness and surefootedness. These are indispensable qualities in hand-to-hand combat. And in combat, it is always an advantage to hold the high-ground. Here in 2 Samuel 22:1-51, David praises the LORD for deliverance from his enemies and for the countless blessings which the LORD had showered upon him. These verses may also be looked at as a Messianic psalm, as such, verses 31-43 describes Jesus’ second coming, when our Lord Jesus Christ will destroy His enemies. As it is written in verse 39-41, “And I have destroyed them and wounded them, So that they could not rise; They have fallen under my feet. For You have armed me with strength for the battle; You have subdued under me those who rose against me. You have also given me the necks of my enemies, So that I destroyed those who hated me.” See in verse 36, Christ’s source of victory, and David’s as well, comes from a love for and association with God the Father. And in a practical sense, our relationship with our heavenly Father, our LORD our God, is the conduit in which we draw strength and power from Almighty God. Because we have a personal relationship with Christ who dwells within us, we can say as David did “The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him” (Psalm 28:7 NKJV). My friend, our victories over life’s struggles are due to the power and faithfulness of God. A relationship with Jesus Christ is much more glorious than a sunset or the rising of the moon. A relationship with Almighty God is what we need today to make it through life. Get right with God, and you will be able to say these words with great joy: “You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; Your gentleness has made me great” (2 Samuel 22:36 NKJV).

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
