Luke 1:76-80 (NKJV) 76 “And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest; For you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways, 77 To give knowledge of salvation to His people By the remission of their sins, 78 Through the tender mercy of our God, With which the Dayspring from on high has visited us; 79 To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.” 80 So the child grew and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel.

John the Baptist was to be called a prophet of the Highest. He was to go before our Lord Jesus Christ to prepare His ways. John was an ordinary person who God prepared to do a special task. John knew that he was to prepare the way of the Messiah. And he knew that Jesus was the Messiah. For when Jesus came to him to be baptized, John said “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water.” And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God” (John 1:29-34 NKJV). The world lies in darkness. But through the tender mercies and grace of God, He sent His Son Jesus Christ into the world as the Light of the world. Like the rising of the sun at day break, Jesus gives “light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death.” And He lights up the way to God, for He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Jesus is the only Way to God the Father. For God reconciled the world unto Himself by the shed blood of His only begotten Son. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved” (John 3:16-17 NKJV).

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
