Luke 2:3-7 (NKJV) 3 So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. 4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. 6 So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Joseph and Mary went to Bethlehem, the city of David, because Joseph and Mary were of the house and lineage of David. This is a historical fact with tremendous spiritual truth behind it. Caesar Augustus signed a tax law which caused every man and woman to be registered in their birth city. So, Joseph and Mary traveled to Bethlehem while Mary was carrying in her womb the Son of God! This is tremendous! That this part of the prophecies is verifiable through historical facts. Now, today no one pays tribute to Caesar Augustus, but that little baby in Mary’s womb is worshiped today by many of us who are saved. And we call Him Jesus because He saves His people from their sins. He is our Savior because He is Immanuel, God with us. Caesar Augustus was merely the tool in God’s hand to bring to pass this prophecy: “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting” (Micah 5:2 NKJV). This is a remarkable account that is verifiable through historical facts. Everything that happened was arranged by God. And it is now a historical fact that cannot be disputed. And Dr. Luke tells us how perfectly human Jesus was. Jesus was fully man and fully God. For He was God manifest in the flesh. He is Immanuel. He is Jesus. He is Savior. Celebrate the real meaning of Christmas this year my friends.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
