Psalm 105:1-6 (NKJV) Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples! 2 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all His wondrous works! 3 Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord! 4 Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore! 5 Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth, 6 O seed of Abraham His servant, You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!

Psalm 105 begins with a real burst of praise that catches up the reader in its persuasive appeal for worship. The psalmist goes back in history and begins with the descendants of Abraham, and the covenant God made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Then the psalmist follows them through Joseph, down into the land of Egypt; using a variety of imperative verbs that are employed to encourage adoration for our Lord, our God. This reminds me of the wonderful hymn we sing at Christmas: “O Come All Ye Faithful”. The first stanza and the chorus goes like this:

O come all ye faithful
Joyful and triumphant
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem
Come and behold Him
Born the King of Angels

O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord

Psalm 105 and this wonderful hymn calls people to come and worship the Lord. They point people to Jesus. Just as John the Baptist did so many years ago. And John’s ministry, as well as ours, is captured in the wonderful song “Nobody” by Casting Crowns. The first verse and the chorus goes like this:

Why You ever chose me
Has always been a mystery
All my life, I’ve been told I belong
At the end of a line
With all the other Not-Quites
With all the Never-Get-It-Rights
But it turns out they are the ones You were looking for
All this time

‘Cause I’m just a nobody trying to tell everybody
All about Somebody who saved my soul
Ever since You rescued me, You gave my heart a song to sing
I’m living for the world to see nobody but Jesus
I’m living for the world to see nobody but Jesus

My friend, worship the Lord our God and “love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30 NKJV). And go and tell everybody about Jesus.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
