John 18:18 (NKJV) Now the servants and officers who had made a fire of coals stood there, for it was cold, and they warmed themselves. And Peter stood with them and warmed himself.
Waiting outside of the palace grounds, the people gathered. There were not many of them, for it was the very early hours of the morning. They made a fire, and Peter stands with them warming himself. And he might have wondered what will become of Jesus, as he mingled with the enemies of Jesus. Peter warmed himself at the world’s fire, so to speak, having already denied knowing Jesus once already. And so, as Jesus had foretold, there in the comfort of the world, so to speak, Peter denies Jesus two more times. “And immediately the rooster crowed” (John 18:27 NKJV). And perhaps at that moment the temple guards brought Jesus out into the court yard to move Him to another location, and Peter caught a glimpse of the bloody and beaten face of our LORD. Then Peter went out of the palace grounds weeping bitterly like a baby. Oh, how many of us have been in Peter’s shoes. We have been to places where we should not have been, and when we are called out for being a Christian, we play it down or bluntly deny it. Then, after the fun, so to speak, is over the Holy Spirit whispers to our hearts. And we begin to weep as Peter did. But, thank God, our Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins. And like how Jesus prayed for Peter’s faith to be strengthen. Jesus is our Great High Priest in heaven interceding on our behalf, praying that our faith would not fail as well. My friend, if you are a true child of God, then whenever you stumble and fall into sin, your heart will regret it and you will turn to God in repentance. If you are a true child of God, then no matter how far you run from God, God is always there already waiting you. No matter if you give up on God, God will never give up on you. “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:37-39 NKJV). Our Lord Jesus Christ never said to Peter, “you have let Me down, I can’t use you anymore.” Rather, Jesus reaffirmed Peter’s faith, and Jesus elected Peter to preach on the day of Pentecost. And it is to this day, the greatest sermon ever given, in my opinion. Thank God for a Savior like our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus will always take you back when you come to Him in repentance. Because Jesus’ love for you will never fail and never give up on you.
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
