Genesis 18:13-15 (NKJV) 13 And the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Shall I surely bear a child, since I am old?’ 14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.” 15 But Sarah denied it, saying, “I did not laugh,” for she was afraid. And He said, “No, but you did laugh!”
Sarah was called out for her unbelief. And she was frightened, but she cannot avoid the truth. What do you do when you are struggling with faith? We all have struggled with doubts, especially in times when we feel that God is so far away. Our circumstances in life are very much real. We have to face them and deal with them every day. Life circumstances can easily overwhelm us and cause seeds of doubts to creep into our minds. What then shall we do? First of all, determine who you are putting your faith in. Our faith as Christians is in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jesus is God the Son, the Second Person in the Trinity, the Triune Godhead. We are putting our trust in Almighty God, Creator of the heavens and the earth. God is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent. Is anything impossible for God? You know the answer. Nothing is impossible for God. Then why do we doubt? We may think that God does not care for us. Or we may think that we are unworthy of God’s help. Or we may think that God will delay His help for us. It is not wrong to have these doubts from time to time. God understands that we will have lapses of faith. What is our defense then against such seeds of doubt? Remembering what God has done for us, is a good weapon against the seeds of doubt. For remembering how God helped us in the past, will strengthen our belief that God will help us now. For God is faithful. Reading the promises of God in the Scriptures and seeing how God fulfilled them, is another way in which our faith can be strengthen. Hebrews chapter 11 is a good place for encouragement. Seeing examples of faith can expire us to hold on to our faith. When we have moments of doubt, we need to immerse ourselves in the truth of God’s Word. We can strengthen our faith by reading about God’s miraculous interventions. Listening to God’s Word on the radio or on the television or mobile devices can give us encouragement. But the greatest way for us to overcome those seeds of doubt is to submit ourselves to the transforming power of the Holy Spirit of God. When we cry out to God to help us in our unbelief. We can expect God to strengthen our faith through the power of the Holy Spirit. For “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” (Romans 8:16 NKJV).
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
