1 Timothy 6:6-10 (NKJV) 6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Christians being a child of God ought to find satisfaction in their position in Christ, not in the world. For nothing of this world do we take beyond the grave. Every worldly thing stays in this world. The motto of the television show Strange Inheritance is so very true, “Remember you can’t take it with you.” We leave everything behind. This then is the reason why we as children of God ought to be using our money, skills, talents, gifts etc. for the work of God. And that is to get the Word out, the message of salvation, the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our motto, if you will, ought to be as the chorus of the song Only Jesus by Casting Crowns sings:
And I, I don’t want to leave a legacy
I don’t care if they remember me
And I, I’ve only got one life to live
I’ll let every second point to Him
My friend, we being children of God ought to be supporting the work of God. We ought to be productive Christians while we wait for the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. For the things of this world can only bring temporary satisfaction. It does not last forever. And we are not here on this earth forever to enjoy it. “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:19-21 NKJV). The things of this world, my friend, will not bring everlasting satisfaction. Where is your heart my friend? Is it in the things of this world, or is it in heaven? “Now godliness with contentment is great gain.”
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
