Nahum 1:3 (NKJV) The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, And will not at all acquit the wicked. The Lord has His way In the whirlwind and in the storm, And the clouds are the dust of His feet.

Nahum makes it very clear that “The LORD is slow to anger.” God sent Jonah to Nineveh to tell the people that God was going to judge them because of their sins unless they repented. All of the people of Nineveh heeded the warning from Jonah, and they repented. There was a great change in the hearts of the people. So, one might say that Jonah held a great evangelistic crusade in Nineveh, and the entire city of Nineveh repented and turned to God. However, it didn’t last very long. It is characteristic of many great evangelistic crusades, that the hearts of the people revert back to their wicked ways. It only took a few generations before Nineveh was once again the most sinful city in that time. And it is the same today, we are always in danger of losing our young people to liberal thinking and worldly ways. And as for the people of Nineveh, well it has been one hundred years since Jonah gave his message of repentance. And now Nahum comes to them to say, in not so many words, “Your time has run out, God shall not delay His Judgment. Death and destruction are upon you. For God will not acquit the wicked.” Because God is slow to anger, His judgment is just. God is just and righteous in His judgment. The wicked shall face God’s judgment unless they turn to Him in repentance. Unless they accept Jesus Christ, God the Son, as their Lord and Savior, they will be judged for their sins. God is just and righteous, and therefore, the penalty for sin needs to be paid. And the penalty is death. But God has made a way for sinful man to be redeemed. God made a way for salvation. And that Way is Jesus Christ His Son. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved” (John 3:16-17 NKJV). For those who will accept Jesus Christ as their Savior, the penalty for sin has been paid in full. But for those who refuse to accept Christ, they will pay the penalty for their sins with their own death. My friend, the penalty for sin must be paid. Either Jesus paid it for you with His death on the Cross, or you will pay it with your death. For God cannot acquit the wicked, sinners. This is why God has provided for us a Redeemer, His only begotten Son Jesus Christ. Either you have Christ or you don’t, there is no other alternative. God is the Creator, and He is the Redeemer. And God is also the Judge. God is running things, my friend. Come to Him for salvation, and then leave all your fears, your worries and your cares in His hands, and rest in His perfect peace because God is good, He is rich in mercy and grace, He cares for you and loves you. And He is our Savior.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
