2 John 12-13 (NKJV) 12 Having many things to write to you, I did not wish to do so with paper and ink; but I hope to come to you and speak face to face, that our joy may be full. 13 The children of your elect sister greet you. Amen.

This is John’s farewell greeting to a prominent woman in a local church and the group of believers of that church. This epistle has been relevant to the church, the body of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ down through the centuries. What the Apostle John has written about truth and love has been very productive in the life of the church. Today, the local churches place a whole lot of emphasis on love, but John tells us otherwise. John basically tells the body of believers to shape up and to get a correct perspective on love and truth. John wanted to come to the local church in person to say what he had to say about truth and love, because he is not a great writer. John wished that he could have told it to them, because he is a better speaker than he is a writer. What did John had to say about truth and love? Frist of all John says that Christian love can only be expressed in the bounds of the family of God. It can only be expressed to those who have the truth, the Word of God and also the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. Christian love must be genuine. And the object of Christian love must be a genuine believer in Christ. Second, John says that we need to stand for the truth of God and for the Word of God. And we need to clearly state what we believe. The truth dwells within us by the power of the Holy Spirit of God who dwells within us. The Holy Spirit of God makes the truths of God’s Word real to us. The truth will not change, for God does not change. God is the same today as He is yesterday and tomorrow. God is unchangeable, and so is truth. Therefore, Christian love must always be expressed in the context of truth. So, that love never changes. Walking in truth is the manner in which we ought to live or lives. Meaning submitting ourselves to the will and commandments of God. We are to walk in the Light as Christ is the Light. We must order our lives by the truths of God’s Word. Truth and love are two key aspects of our Christian faith. Christian love is expressed in truth towards other believers. But love cannot be put above truth, because when we do, then we sacrifice truth, the Word of God. This is a tremendous letter that John wrote, and its message about truth and love ought to alert every believer today.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
