Philippians 2:5-11 (NKJV) 5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
The one word that describes the mind of Christ is humility. The Apostle Paul encourages us to be like Christ in the attitudes of our mind. Paul says, “I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:1-3 NKJV). We are to be Christ-like and be humble. Why Christ-like? Because the natural man, meaning our old flesh, is impatient, assertive and overbearing. We don’t want to be offended. We don’t want to be ignored. We don’t want to be mistreated. And the list goes on. These things hurt our self-image, our self-worth, because we think too highly of ourselves than we should. Because of pride, we can only hope to be humble when we put on Christ. For the mind of Christ is humility. “He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” Therefore, it is the purpose of God the Father to exalt His Son, Jesus Christ. This is the will of God for all who believes. We are to be one with the Father in exalting the name of Jesus. Because of what Jesus, God the Son, the second person of the Trinity, did for us on the cross. Jesus did not empty Himself of His deity when He stepped down from heaven to earth. Jesus was fully God. “And took upon Him the form of a servant. And was made in the likeness of men. And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself. And He became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” It is hard to fully comprehend what Jesus did for us. It is as the song goes: “Amazing love, how can it be? That You, my King would die for me? Amazing love, I know it’s true. It’s my joy to honor You. In all I do, I honor You.” Jesus left all the glory of heaven and came down to this earth, and clothed Himself in humanity. And He died for us, for the payment of our sins. This is the mind of Christ. And the mind of God the Father is the exaltation of Jesus Christ His Son. It is the Father’s purpose to glorify the name of Jesus. And it is our purpose as well. The Father gave His Son “a name which is above every name.” And “what a beautiful Name it is nothing compares to this. What a beautiful Name it is the Name of Jesus.” It is the Father’s will “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
