Genesis 13:1-4 (NKJV) Then Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, to the South. 2 Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold. 3 And he went on his journey from the South as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, 4 to the place of the altar which he had made there at first. And there Abram called on the name of the Lord.

Abram was a very wealthy man at this time. Abram was in the south, around Hebron, and traveled far north of Jerusalem to Bethel. The important thing to understand of Abram’s return to Bethel from Egypt is although he stumbled and sinned, he came back to God. Abram returned to fellowship with God. There is always a way back to God. Abram found it, the prodigal son found it, and any man or woman who wants to return to fellowship with God can find the way back to Him. The arms of God our Heavenly Father are always open to receive us. This old hymn, “Back to Bethel” by Baylus Benjamin McKinney, has become the rallying cry for all who wants to return to God.

Back to the Bible, the true Living Word, Sweetest old story that ever was heard, Back to the joy-life my soul longs to know, Bethel is calling, and I must go.
Back to Bethel I must go, Back where the rivers of sweet water flow, Back to the true life my soul longs to know, Bethel is calling, and I must go.
Back to the beautiful path I once trod, Back to the church and the people of God, Out of the cold world of sin and its woe, Bethel is calling, and I must go.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
