Acts 16:31-34 (NKJV) 31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. 33 At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized. 34 The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God—he and his whole household.
We are saved by believing on the Lord Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. In Christ alone by grace alone we are saved. “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12 NKJV). For Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” ((John 14:6 NKJV). “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 NKJV). “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved,” and if your household believes on the Lord Jesus Christ then they shall be saved as well. Salvation is a personal thing. We must make an individual choice to believe. But a godly father and a godly mother have a heartfelt spiritual influence on their children. As parents, we should hope and pray for the salvation of our children. We should continue to demonstrate God’s grace and His unconditional love. As Charles Spurgeon once said, “though grace does not run in the blood, and regeneration is not of blood nor of birth, yet doth it very frequently—I was about to say almost always—happen that God, by means of one of a household, draws the rest to himself. He calls an individual, and then uses him to be a sort of spiritual decoy to bring the rest of the family into the gospel net.” (Charles Haddon Spurgeon, November 4, 1871, Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit Volume 17). That is what the Apostle Paul is saying here in verses 31 through 34 of Acts chapter 16. The father is a changed man, the difference is evident to his entire household. And they believed also. Together they rejoiced over the redeeming power of our Savior Jesus Christ.
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
