Acts 2:2-4 (NKJV) 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

The sound that they heard was like the sound of a tornado. It was extremely loud. And it shook the entire house. Then they saw tongues that looked like fire and it rested upon each of them. On the Day of Pentecost, they did not see the Holy Spirit, but they saw something that looked like fire. That is how the Holy Spirit baptized them into the body of Christ. That was the beginning of the church. Every believer is baptized into the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit of God. Do you have to see tongues that look like fire rest upon you to be baptized by the Holy Spirit? The answer is no. Do you have to speak in “tongues” in order to demonstrate that you have been baptized by the Holy Spirit? And by the way, it was not an unknown language that they spoke in. They spoke in the language of everyone there, so that everyone could hear the Word of God in their own language. But still, the answer is no. Why? Because the baptism of the Holy Spirit, is the “washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:5 NKJV) by which we are brought into the body of Christ, the family of believers, the church. It is the filling of the Holy Spirit. And it is how every believer is identified with Christ. We become part of the body of Christ by the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the filling of the Holy Spirit. It is how we are born again from above into the family of God. It is important to understand that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is not the baptism of fire. Because fire is for judgment. The baptism of fire is for those who refuses to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The Lord Jesus Christ is coming again in flaming fire to judge those who have rejected God’s grace. That is the baptism of fire, it is God’s wrath being poured out on those who rebel against Him. The baptism of the Holy Spirit brings us into the body of Christ. We are identified with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection. By the baptism of the Holy Spirit, we are raised with Christ to newness of life (see Romans 6:4). When does the baptism of the Holy Spirit occur? You are filled with the Holy Spirit at the very moment you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. At that very moment you are baptized with the Holy Spirit. When you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are born again, you are filled with the Holy Spirit, and you are sealed by the Holy Spirit into an eternal relationship with God by the transforming power of the Holy Spirt of God.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
