Romans 16:19 (NKJV) For your obedience has become known to all. Therefore I am glad on your behalf; but I want you to be wise in what is good, and simple concerning evil.

The Apostle Paul encouraged the body of believers in Rome to continue to be obedient to the Lord Jesus Christ. For you see, my friend, faith is manifested in obedience. Paul wants them to study the Word of God by listening to the pure teachings of the apostles and disciples. So that they will be able to discern between the true Word of God and false doctrine that is tainted with evil. By this, they will be able to reject evil, and obey the true Word of God. This is a good reason for us to study the Word of God, so that we will not be led astray by false doctrine. Basically, Paul is saying “Don’t be a babe in Christ. Grow towards maturity in your understanding of Christ and your obedience to Him.” This is how Paul said it to the Corinthian believers, “Brethren, do not be children in understanding; however, in malice be babes, but in understanding be mature” (1 Corinthians 14:20 NKJV). To the believers in Rome, the Corinthian believers and to us, Paul says “don’t be a carnal Christian.” Carnal Christians prefer entertaining and flashy teachings that can stimulate their emotions, rather then sound and stable teachings. We are not to take a childish delight in the spectacular demonstration of tongues, healing and the promise of prosperity which are used for self-display. We must be mature in our thinking to discern what is the true Word of God and what is evil. In order to do this, our faith must be manifested in obedience. Study the true Word of God and be obedient to Him.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
