Colossians 1:9-14 (NKJV) 9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. 13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

To be filled with the full knowledge of the will of God in all wisdom and spiritual understanding as revealed in the Word of God by the power of the Holy Spirit is important for believers. It is the first thing that the Apostle Paul prays for, and he mentions wisdom six times in this short epistle. This wisdom is not of a worldly or carnal nature. It is spiritual wisdom and spiritual understanding to apply the Word of God to all that we do, so that we may see what is in accordance with God’s will. By this, we might walk worthy of the Lord and be fully pleasing to Him. This is very important to understand. God does not reveal His will to us so that our curiosity, ambition or pride might be satisfied God shows us His will for our lives in order for us to please Him in all that we do. This is a very important lesson to learn. All that we do ought to be fruitful because we are in Christ. For as our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has said, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5 NKJV). We are in Christ, and He is the vine, and therefore we ought to bear much fruit. It is very important to understand that we are saved by grace not by good works. But the evidence or the fruit of our salvation is good works. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10 NKJV). Paul also said, “This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men” (Titus 3:8 NKJV). To know the will of God, to please God, and to be fruitful are all possible when we increase in our knowledge of God. We ought to be growing in the Word of God. We need to commit ourselves to the diligent study of God’s Word. And we must put what we learn into action. We must obey God’s teachings and serve Him faithfully with love. For as Jesus said, “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15 NKJV). And here is the wonderful thing about this, God does not leave us helpless in our inability to keep His commandments. God provides us strength according to His glorious power through the Holy Spirit, the Helper. He comes along side us, and He equips us with all that we need to serve and obey God. The Holy Spirit strengthens us so that we may have all patience and longsuffering with joy in the midst of trials and tribulations. That we thank God for all things that happens in our lives, both the good and the bad. This is important to learn. As children of God, we ought to believe our heavenly Father and believe that His promises are true. That by faith we are brought into the kingdom of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior in whom we have forgiveness of sins through His shed blood on the cross at Calvary. And in Christ we are blessed with all spiritual blessings.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
