1 Chronicles 29:11 (NKJV) Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, The power and the glory, The victory and the majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, And You are exalted as head over all.
At the heart of David’s prayer is the acknowledgement that Christ is the Creator, for He is God the Son, the Second Person of the Triune Godhead, the Trinity. “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him” (Colossians 1:16 NKJV). David also mentions the Lord’s kingdom. This is the same kingdom of which our Lord Jesus Christ spoke of in the model prayer He gave to His disciples. Jesus said to His disciples, “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen” (Matthew 6:8-13 NKJV). “Thy kingdom come” was in the heart of David. This is the Kingdom which our Lord Jesus Christ will establish here on earth. All of us should be praying for that day to come. When Jesus said, “Yours is the kingdom,” generally speaking, Jesus is teaching us that God reigns over all His creation. This is “the kingdom,” it is the rule of God over the earth. When Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden, man was separated from God, and the earth was cursed. David’s prayer and the model prayer, prays for the recovery of the earth, and man, to bring both back under the rule of God. Take a look at what is happening today. We certainly need God. We need to pray, “Thy kingdom come.” This is the kingdom we should pray for. And only the Lord Jesus Christ can establish this kingdom on this earth and in the hearts of man. My friend, we all need to pray, “Thine is the kingdom,” for we need Jesus to rule over our hearts. David looked forward to the coming of Christ’s Kingdom here on earth. When Jesus rides upon a white stallion into His Kingdom in victory, that will be a Triumphal Entry. What a glorious day that will be.
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
