John 4:13-14 (NKJV) 13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
Here is another example of Jesus using symbolism a metaphor to explain spiritual truth. He is taking a common everyday thing to explain the truth about salvation. Remember that the symbol is a reference to something that is real, such as a real person. And in this case Jesus is talking about the Holy Spirit who will be given to anyone who believes in Him. And “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink” (John 7:37 NKJV). Again, this is another metaphor. When Jesus says “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink”, Jesus is saying if anyone is wanting to be saved, then trust Him as Lord and Savior. Jesus is telling us to take Him into our lives as we would take a glass of water and drink it. My friend, you can come to Jesus and receive Him as your Savior. God is offering you a gift of salvation; all you need to do is accept Christ for yourself. All this world has to offer is unable to fill and satisfy your heart. But the blessings which the Lord Jesus Christ provides not only fills and satisfies your heart, but also overflows your heart with great joy. For the benefits of Christ’s mercies and grace will go on forever into everlasting life. The question is, “Are you thirsty?” Then come to Jesus and drink.
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
