Daniel 3:1-2 (NKJV) Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits and its width six cubits. He set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon. 2 And King Nebuchadnezzar sent word to gather together the satraps, the administrators, the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
This image of gold was extravagantly made. It was a lavishly impressive image. Nebuchadnezzar was filled with excessive pride, and the image was probably of himself to emphasize the point that it was he you built the greatest kingdom on earth. The image was roughly ninety feet high, about the height of a nine-story house. And it was roughly 9 feet wide. If the image was made of solid gold, then it would have weighed between 400 to 540 tons, which is 800,000 to 1,080,000 pounds. That is a lot of gold. And the sheer height of the image on the Dura plain made it visible from a great distance away. The flat and expansive Dura plain made it possible for a great multitude to assemble and still see the image as they worshiped it. This tells us why Nebuchadnezzar would have made the golden image to look like him. First, he was rebelling against God. Second, he was making himself a god. And third, he was attempting to establish a one world religion. Nebuchadnezzar’s movement for a one world religion is clearly demonic. But in today’s modern world, the devil is more cunning. There are many who are working towards a one world religion, including the denominations which make up the World Council of Churches. The stated aim of the WWC is “to pursue the goal of the visible unity of the Church. This involves a process of renewal and change in which member churches pray, worship, discuss and work together” (from the official WCC website). Members of the WCC include mainline Protestant, Anglican, and Eastern Orthodox churches. Sadly, the unity which the WCC wants to achieve, based on their stated aim on the official WCC website, is at the expense of the absolute truth of the Word of God. Another movement for a one world religion is the Coexisters. They make the statement, “If we could at least agree we’re all talking about the same god, we would sure be better planet-mates” (from the official Coexisters website). Well, for one thing, all religions do not worship the same god. There are only two religions that worship the same Elohim. And these two religions are made up of Jews and Christians. While the Jews are still to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their Messiah, the faithful remnant of Israel will do so during the Tribulation. And sin is another reason why different religions cannot coexist peacefully. Pride, arrogance, tempers, stubbornness can still have a tendency to rise up even in a gathering of people with different religious beliefs. And the obvious elephant in the room, is all religions are not the same. Only Christianity addresses the sin problem by the substitutional sacrifice of God the Son, Jesus Christ on the cross at Calvary. All who accepts the Lord Jesus Christ as his or her Savior is born again. Their hearts and lives are changed. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV). The problem with a one world religion is that it is ultimately organized and pushed by Satan. And my friend, you can bet that he is going to leave Jesus out of it. All of these attempts for a one world religion are not toward the worship of the living and true God: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit; the Triune Godhead, the Trinity. Because these groups that want to form a one world religion actually oppose God the Son, Jesus Christ. The formation of a one world religion is going to lead to the Great Tribulation period, the second half of the Tribulation. Those who go through the Tribulation will be forced to worship the Anti-Christ. But thank God for His mercies and grace, for Christ will call up His church, the body of believers, before the start of the Tribulation. All who believes in the Lord Jesus Christ, God the Son, will be called up, raptured, at the second coming of Jesus. Until Christ’s returns, my friends, we need to be watchful, not to let strange doctrine corrupt the true truth of God’s Word. We need to stand firm on the truths of God’s Word, and not be led astray.
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
