Luke 2:46-50 (NKJV) 46 Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers. 48 So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.” 49 And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” 50 But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them.
Mary and Joseph searched all around the city for Jesus. They searched for three days. Then finally they decided to search in the Temple. And there they found Jesus, standing in the midst of the teachers. Jesus was listening to them convey the meaning of certain Scriptures. And Jesus was also teaching to them the heart of the Scriptures, in other words Jesus was giving to them a deeper meaning. They could not answer Jesus’ questions. So, Jesus told them the heart of the Scriptures. Everyone around Jesus were astonished at His answers. At this point, Jesus may have only been twelve. But He knew the Scriptures better, because He is the One who the Scriptures are written about. Mary and Joseph were also astonished, but they were upset with Him. They turned the city upside down for three days looking for Him. But Jesus, in not so many words, says to them, “Why did you not come to the Temple first? Don’t you know that I would be doing My Father’s work?” But Mary and Joseph did not understand, but they pondered these things in their hearts. Why didn’t Mary and Joseph understand? They were told of who Jesus is before His birth. And yet they were still confused. It is the same today, you can tell people who Jesus is, but they will still be confused. People can even be in the churches today, listening to the Word of God, and studying the Word of God. And yet, they are still confused about who Jesus is. Just like Jesus’ disciples who listened to Jesus teachings and sermons, they were still confused about who He is and what He would do for them and for us. It was not until Jesus asked directly, “Who do you say I am?” A lot of people today are still confused. They are still pondering upon that question. Why? It is because the Holy Spirit of God has not yet revealed Christ to them. And why is that, you may ask. Well, it is because they have not yet repented of their sins. You see, whenever anyone is willing to repent of their sins, God is able to reveal Christ His Son to them. For you see, faith is a gift from God, but the only way to receive this gift is to repent of your sins.
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
