John 1:40-42 (NKJV) 40 One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, “You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas” (which is translated, A Stone).

Simon was his birth name. Cephas (which is translated, Peter) is the name given to him by Jesus because he would follow Jesus by faith. Although, the name Cephas which is translated, A Stone. Meaning someone who is steadfast in his or her belief. Meaning to say, that his faith is solid like a rock. But we know what happened before the rooster crowed three times. Perhaps those who knew Simon, may have chuckled a little when Jesus gave Peter his name. Because they knew Simon was weak. We all have a birth name, but when we accept the Lord Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are known as a child of God. And like Peter, people may wonder about the strength of our faith. Are we solid as a rock, or are we as weak as water? Thank God that our faith is strengthen by the power of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. For you see even our faith is a gift from God. Andrew simply said to his brother, Simon, “We have found the Messiah.” The Jews have been waiting for thousands of years for a Savior. And now Simon hears that Jesus was nearby. Many people are still searching for Jesus today. The problem is that many hear the simple message of salvation, but unlike Peter, they do not get up and go to Jesus. My friend, the Lord Jesus Christ is nearby and He is calling to you come and be saved. All you have to do is accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior by moving your heart towards Him. And He will save you.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
