Matthew 8:11 (NKJV) And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

This is just a part of the events that are recorded of the time Jesus healed a centurion’s servant. It is worth reading the entire account as it is recorded for us in Matthew 8:5-13. It reads:

5 Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, 6 saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.” 7 And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.” 8 The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 10 When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! 11 And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” 13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that same hour.

The faith of the centurion is strikingly greater than the Jews. The centurion felt compassion for his servant who had suffered a painful paralysis. So, he came to Jesus to seek healing for his servant. Being a military man, he knew how to obey orders from his commanding officers, and he knew that his orders would be carried out by those who are under his command. So, he says to Jesus, just give the word, and I know my servant will be healed. And Jesus marveled at the reality and depth of the centurion’s faith. Jesus had not found such great faith among the Jews. There will be many Gentile believers from all around the world who will entire into Jesus’ coming kingdom, and there will be many Jews who will be cast into hell where there be weeping and gnashing of teeth. My friends, this serves as a caution, a warning to all who say they are a Christian. We can’t get into heaven based on the faith of others, or our religious denomination, or by the church we attend, or by performing some ritual, or by observing religious traditions. We get into heaven based on our relationship with Christ. Is He truly your Lord and Savior? Are you submitting your will to His? Are you letting Christ live His life through you? Are you reading, studying, and keeping God’s Word dear to your heart? Do you wholeheartedly trust in Christ? My friends, are you praying for someone? Take note, that “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much” (James 5:16 NKJV). Such as the faith of the centurion. My friends, when you pray with genuine faith, your prayers effective.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
