Romans 12:15-16 (NKJV) 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.
“Rejoice with those who rejoice” is opposite of the world’s motto, “Laugh and the world laughs with you; weep and you weep alone.” But as believers we are to rejoice with those who rejoice, and we are to “weep with those who weep.” We are to enter into the joys and sorrows of other believers. For we are to “be of the same mind toward one another.” This means that we are to have the mind of Christ. With the mind of Christ, we enter emotionally into the lives of other believers. We can truly empathize with other believers when we have the mind of Christ. This is one of the marks of a genuine believer. And to have the mind of Christ, we need to have a humble mind. As we are told, “Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble.” The Apostle Paul said, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” What kind of mind did Christ have? Jesus had a humble mind. He was not afraid of associating with the humble who were of low estate. We need to have the mind of Christ, if we hope to share the message of salvation. For pride will surely stop us from doing so. Therefore, “do not be wise in your own opinion.” Don’t think to yourself that you have arrived, that you are fully matured spiritually, that you are a spiritual giant. There is danger in having a prideful attitude. As Solomon said, “Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him” (Proverbs 26:12 NKJV). It is hard or impossible to correct a conceited brother or sister. Because they see themselves above correction or instruction or rebuke. Therefore, it is hard for them to admit their sin and to repent of it. Living with unrepented sin is dangerous. It may bring into question your salvation. A true child of God has a mind like Christ. A humble mind. Being humble is the only way to see your own sin and repent of it. So that you will not be ashamed at Christ’s appearing.
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
