Matthew 6:11 (NKJV) Give us this day our daily bread.

This is part of the model prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 for our own prayers. Verse 11 contains a simple petition that should come form our hearts with great passion. This wonderful petition speaks of our total dependence upon God. Our bodily health, our physical nourishment, all are supplied by God day by day. Just as the Jews gathered manna for their daily meal, they gathered nothing for the next day. Because they were not permitted to do so. They were only allowed to gather up what they needed for the day. And even so, in this model prayer we are to petition God for our daily need after putting God’s interests first. When we petition God to “Give us this day our daily bread”, we acknowledge our total dependence on God for our daily nourishment, both physical and spiritual. My friends, even our bodily necessities, our basic needs, come from God. As we are reminded by this child’s grace:

God is great and God is good, And we thank Him for our food; By His hand we must be fed, Give us Lord, our daily bread. Amen.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
