Acts 16:14-15 (NKJV) 14 Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul. 15 And when she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” So she persuaded us.

Paul and Silas were ministering in Philippi a city in ancient Macedonia, close to the Aegean coast in northeastern Greece, near the port of Kavalla (ancient Neapolis) and northwest of the nearby Thasos island. There at Philippi, Paul and Silas met a certain woman named Lydia from Thyatira you was holding a prayer meeting down by the river. Philippi is about 400 miles northwest, by land, of Thyatira. Thyatira is the name of an ancient Greek city, now the modern Turkish city of Akhisar, in Asia Minor which is the western peninsula of Asia between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, and constitutes most of modern-day Turkey. Thyatira was established under Alexander the Great, and it was noted for its trade, particularly purple dye which Lydia sold. Thyatira is the place of one of the seven churches which received admonition from our Lord Jesus Christ in Revelation 2:2 – 3:22. The church of Thyatira seemed to be praiseworthy for its love, service, faith and patience. But our Lord Jesus Christ exposed their sin. They allowed a self-proclaimed prophetess to corrupt the church with sexual immorality and eating things they knew were sacrificed to idols. For these reasons, the church of Thyatira was an adulterous church. And Jesus called those who took part in the cult of immorality to repentance less they would face the wrath of God. But for those who knew God’s holy standards and stood firm in them, Jesus encouraged them to stand their ground on the Word of God till He returns. It could be said of Lydia that she worshiped the living and true God and would not budge from the truth of God’s Word. Jesus’ warning and encouragement are applicable to us today, my friends. Heed Christ’s warning. And hold fast to His encouragement till His return. Stand fast for Christ just as Lydia did, and your entire household will turn to God through your witness.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
