Joshua 24:14-15 (NKJV) 14 “Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord! 15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

For many years Joshua stood in the shadow of Moses. Joshua learned a lot from Moses and you may say that Joshua tried to imitate Moses to the point that you may say that Joshua was a miniature Moses. But the more I know about Joshua, I see that Joshua is a man of great stature. God chose Joshua for this very reason to lead the children of Israel into the Promise Land. God chose an average man like Joshua to demonstrate the fact that an average man who is dedicated to God can be mightily used by God. Or in other words, God can take the ordinary and do extra-ordinary things. Joshua says to the children of Israel, “Choose this day who will you serve, the gods of your fathers, that is the gods of Egypt, or the gods of the Amorites. Are you going to serve foreign gods? But as for me and my family, we have made our choice, we are going to serve the one and only true and living God.” Joshua challenged the children of Israel to consider their covenant with God. The children of Israel replied “Far be it from us that we should forsake the Lord to serve other gods” (Joshua 24:16 NKJV). But Joshua knew that in their tents they had idols of false gods. So, Joshua said to them, “you can’t serve God and worship idols too.” But the children of Israel persisted in promising allegiance to their God, so Joshua erected a large stone marker to remind them of the covenant they made with God. What about us today, my friends, how committed are we to Elohim?

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
