Luke 23:55-56 (NKJV) 55 And the women who had come with Him from Galilee followed after, and they observed the tomb and how His body was laid. 56 Then they returned and prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.

This group of dedicated women, who probably performed the humble tasks for Jesus and His disciples, were with Him from the beginning to the very end. They saw Jesus die on the Cross. They watched as His body was placed in the tomb. “Then they returned and prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.” I do think, that since it says the Sabbath drew near, that Jesus died and was placed in the tomb on Friday. And because the Sabbath drew near, the women could not finish preparing the body for burial. Later Nicodemus and Joseph wrapped linen around Jesus’ body. John tells us, “Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury” (John 19:40 NKJV). Because the Sabbath drew near, the women did not return to the tomb to prepare Jesus’ body for burial. They prepared the spices to put on Jesus’ body, and they planned to return to the tomb after the Sabbath. But when they returned on the next day, after the Sabbath, Jesus’ body was no longer in the tomb. My friends, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is not in the tomb. He is alive.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
