1 Kings 9:26-28 (NKJV) 26 King Solomon also built a fleet of ships at Ezion Geber, which is near Elath on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom. 27 Then Hiram sent his servants with the fleet, seamen who knew the sea, to work with the servants of Solomon. 28 And they went to Ophir, and acquired four hundred and twenty talents of gold from there, and brought it to King Solomon.

Solomon just about had all the gold back then. He had a fleet of ships at Ezion Geber on the eastern arm of the Read Sea near Israeli Eilat (Elath). Hiram sent some of his servants who knew the sea to guide Solomon’s fleet to Ophir (southwestern Arabia, or India, or Africa) to get gold from there. Solomon had a great Navy, and his Navy traveled around to distant shores and brought back exotic wood and precious stones, gold, silver, ivory. Solomon had established a good trade relationship with other nations. His riches and wisdom brought him worldwide respect, and gifts poured in to him from admirers who came to visit him. Solomon not only had riches, but he also had a lot of exotic animals like apes and monkeys. He also had a lot of horses and chariots. But all this luxury came with a price. In order for Solomon to obtain more riches and maintain it, he had to tax the people heavily. And this led to the downfall of the kingdom from within. For this multiplication of riches and horses violated God’s Word. My friends, greed can ruin any pure heart.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
