Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV) For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The Word of God reveals the living Christ. The Word of God is living and energizing. And it is sharper than any two-edged sword. In seminary, they teach young preachers this golden rule: the Word of God is quick and sharp, but it is a two-edged sword. Meaning, one side will cut towards the congregation, and the other side will cut towards you. So, it is best, not to preach anything that you are not preaching to yourself. I find this to be true on many Sundays. My friends, when you give out the Word of God, you don’t need to be an elegant speaker, because the Holy Spirit is the one that gives it power to penetrate the hearts of those who are seeking God. The Holy Spirit uses the Word of God to bring unbelievers to a saving knowledge of Christ. The Holy Spirit uses the Word of God to give joy to believers. The Holy Spirit uses the Word of God to bring believers into a joyful union with Jesus through prayer. This is the purpose of the Word of God; it effects the lives of those who hear it. But the problem is that many believers don’t spend enough time in the Word of God. It could be because the Word of God is quick and sharp. It can cut right to the heart of the matter. It can discern our thoughts and intents. But this is how we are shaped, refined, and transformed by the Holy Spirit of God. It is sin that keeps people from coming to Christ. They love their sin. It is not an intellectual problem. It is a sin problem. That is the heart of the matter. So, when people are ready to give up their sins, they will come to Christ. My friends, the Word of God deals with the heart.
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
