1 Peter 4:8 (NKJV) And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”
The Apostle Peter is talking about relationships between believers. He is essentially saying, “Above all love one another because when you love one another you will not sin against each other.” But it is sad to say that jealousy, envy and pride stirs up strife in the churches today. A small group of people will be against another group of people. And it will grow into hatred and division within the church. Then soon, it will cause a church split. Peter is repeating Proverbs 10:12 (NKJV) which says, “Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins.” Since, Peter brings up love again, it must be an important principle to adopt. If everyone would have love in their hearts, then the little quirks that people may have won’t be so much of an irritation and it won’t be a bother at all. For fervent love will not make a big deal of the faults and failings of other believers. But let’s be clear on this point, Peter and the writer of Proverbs are not saying to cover up, ignore or condone sin. Sin must be dealt with in the church. The offender must undergo church discipline. However, it must be done with love.
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
