John 3:31-36 (NKJV) 31 He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all. 32 And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; and no one receives His testimony. 33 He who has received His testimony has certified that God is true. 34 For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure. 35 The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. 36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
The John the Baptist makes is it perfectly clear that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that is God the Son. John gives us this wonderful testimony concerning our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. John says, “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life.” If you believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is God the Son, then you have everlasting life right now. John couldn’t have made it any clearer than that. But hold on, what does, believing in the Lord Jesus Christ entails? It involves repentance. And what is repentance? It is agreeing with God that you are a sinner and that you need a Savior. It involves trusting in what the Lord Jesus Christ did for you on the Cross is sufficient to pay the penalty for your sins; nothing more needs to be added and nothing more needs to be done. Believing in the Lord Jesus Christ includes accepting God’s grace, that is God’s free gift of salvation through the shed blood of His Son Jesus Christ. It involves accepting the Lord Jesus Christ for who He is, He is God the Son the Second Person of the Triune Godhead, Elohim. I think that up to now, you could easily say yes, I agree with all of that, and yes, I have done it. But wait a minute, there is another thing. Believing in the Lord Jesus Christ means that you accept Him as the Lord of your life. Meaning, Jesus is in total control of your entire life all of the time. And it involves submitting and obedience. And I think this is where we struggle, because it is hard to submit our will to God’s will, that is making God’s will our will. And it is hard to follow all of Christ’s commandments, even the easiest of them all. Jesus said, “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37 NKJV). I think we easily forget about this commandment, especially when the pastor is being long winded in sharing the Word of God. We get irritated at the pastor, instead of focusing our hearts on the Word of God. So, you see my friends, it is easy to call Jesus Savior. But we need the help of the Holy Spirit of God to be able to call Jesus the Lord of my life.
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
