1 John 4:9-10 (NKJV) 9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Back in the day of Jesus, the cross was not the symbol that it is today. Back then the cross was a cruel method of torture and a slow agonizing death. But it is where God manifested His love for us that we might be saved. On the Cross through the shed blood of His Son Jesus Christ, God the Father reconciled Himself to a world of lost sinners. So that all who would repent of their sins and believe in His Son Jesus Christ will not perish but have everlasting life. It was God’s love that created His plan of salvation before time began. It was God’s love that sent His Son Jesus Christ into this world. It was God’s love that kept Christ on the Cross. It was God’s love that Christ died for us. But my friends, God’s love does not save us. It is by God’s grace that we are saved. For you see my friends, the first part of John 3:16 tells us why God sent His Son into this world. It was because of God’s love. But the second part of John 3:16 tells us how we are saved. It is by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ. Because of what Christ did for us, God the Father can extend His grace of forgiveness to all who will repent of their sins and come to Christ by faith. You see my friends; it is not that God so loved us that He excused our sins. God is a righteous God, therefore the penalty for our sins had to be paid. And the Lord Jesus Christ stepped down from heaven and took our place on the cross, and He paid the penalty for our sins. There on the cross Christ died for us so that we might live. This is why we celebrate Christmas.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
