John 7:45-46 (NKJV) 45 Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, “Why have you not brought Him?” 46 The officers answered, “No man ever spoke like this Man!”
Back in verses 37 through 39 of John chapter 7, it is written, “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.” My friends, God’s free gift of salvation is offered to anyone who will come to Jesus. The question is, will you turn to Jesus for salvation? You can come to Jesus and receive Him as your Lord and Savior. Now at that time, Jesus promised the Holy Spirit to all who will believe in Him. But the Holy Spirit did not come right at that time, because Jesus did not yet ascend into heaven. Instead, the Holy Spirit came on the Day of Pentecost. And on that day, we can be assured that Jesus was back at the Father’s throne in heaven. The Holy Spirit came to dwell in the hearts of believers and to form them into one body for which the Lord Jesus Christ is the head. When Jesus said what He said in verses 37 and 38, some people thought that Jesus was a Prophet. And some believed that Jesus was the Christ. But there were those who out right rejected that idea. “So there was a division among the people because of Him” (John 7:43 NKJV). My friends, the Lord Jesus Christ will always cause a division among people over who He is until He comes again to reign. Now, the officers were sent out to take Jesus, but they could not because it was not Jesus’ hour. It was not time for Him to go to the cross. The officers returned to the chief priest and Pharisees, and when they were asked why they returned without Jesus. They said, “No man ever spoke like this Man!” For Jesus was a great teacher. However, Jesus does not save us by His teachings. Jesus saves us by His death and resurrection. Now, when Nicodemus defended Jesus, the rest of the Pharisees laughed at him and ridiculed him. Then they all went to their own house. You see, my friends, the reason why they wanted Jesus brought to them was not to invite Him to their house for the great day of the feast. They instead wanted to put Jesus on trial. Therefore, Jesus spent that night out in the Mount of Olives. No one invited Jesus into their home. My friends, how about you? Do you celebrate some Christian festivity without Christ? Has Christianity become nothing more than a religion to you? Or do you live in the love and light of Christ’s presence? Have you opened the door to your heart and let Jesus into your life?
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
