Romans 12:17-21 (NKJV) 17 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

What is to be our relationship with unbelievers? Well, it is expected that unbelievers may treat us wrongly. But we may receive the same treatment from fellow believers. In either case we as the offended are not to strike back. Why? Because if we ack the same way as unbelievers, or in a wicked way, then what would be said of believers. There is nothing worse than a Christian behaving like an unbeliever. And sadly, there those believers that do. Unbelievers do not care about what denomination you belong to, or what church you go to. But they sure want to see you behave like Christ, or at least what they know about Him. And mostly, they will accept that Jesus was loving, caring, kind, patient, honest, well you get the point. Unbelievers expect you to possess these characteristics. Unbelievers are watching your life, and they are reading in between the lines. Although, they might not admit it, they want to see Christ in you. Because they want to know if what you believe in is really true. So, you sure better have a life that backs up your testimony. That is why we are told, as much as it is “possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.” Meaning, do your best to live peaceably with everyone, it does not mean that if you do then everyone will live peaceably with you. It is not a realistic expectation. Because you can only expect to please some of the people some of the time. So, you are to do the best that you can. However, this does not mean that we return evil for evil. Because the moment that we do, we take the matter out of God’s control. And we are no longer walking by faith. God will handle the matter in a just way. So, we ought to turn things over to God. I know it is difficult to do, because our old nature really surfaces to the top when we are offended. But believe me, when you turn it over to God, you will be amazed at how well He handles it. And believe me, God can handle it a lot better than you, or I could. And if you are like me, you would wish that you turn over all matters to the Lord, instead of hitting back. It is best to return evil with good. For once thing, we are outnumbered. There are more evil people in this world than there are good people. We cannot adopt the same worldly tactics of hate, anger, violence, and revenge. If we try, we are sure to fail. Our best weapon against evil is good. God has given us the “good,” which is the Holy Spirit. We are to walk in the Spirit. If we do, we will not stoop down to the level of our evil attackers. That is why, Paul tells us, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit” (Galatians 5:25 NKJV). Turn the matter over to God, my friends.

God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
