1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NKJV) 4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love is patient and kind, means that love suffers long. Love then is slow to anger, that is to patiently restrain from anger and endure lasting offense and hardship. It is as Paul instructed, “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you” (Ephesians 4:32 NKJV). Therefore, love does not envy. Love is content, satisfied with his or her portion of life and giving thanks to God and following Him. It then follows that love is not boastful or ostentatious. Love is not proudful, bearing one’s self loftily or thinking of yourself to be greater than you should. Love then does not behave rudely, meaning that love is polite. Love has no hidden agendas or personal motives. Rather everything done in love is done for the love of Christ. Therefore, love is not easily provoked and love thinks no evil. My friend, do you know what the primary objective of gossip is? It is to suggest evil ideas. Sadly, gossip is the vice of many Christians today. But love ought not to rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth. What brings you joy? Doing evil things or doing good? Do you enjoy gossiping? I tell you gossiping is pure evil. Instead of tearing people down, love builds them up and protects them. And love does not regard people with suspicion. Love is optimistic and love remains strong in good times and bad. My friend, these characteristics of love are to be real in your life. Agape love is what we are to express through the Holy Spirit who dwells within us.
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
