Revelation 21:1-5 (NKJV) Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” 5 Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”
John is witnessing the final scene that ushers in eternity. This present earth and heaven will pass away in order to make room for a new earth and a new heaven. The old creation was made for the first Adam. Now John sees a new creation for Christ the Last Adam. ““For as the new heavens and the new earth Which I will make shall remain before Me,” says the Lord, “So shall your descendants and your name remain”” (Isaiah 66:22 NKJV). The new heavens and the new earth which John had seen will be the total fulfilment of this prophecy. The current heavens shall pass away and the current earth shall be destroyed by fire on the day of judgment and perdition at the Great White Throne Judgment after the Millennium. Then heaven will come down to the new earth. “Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells” (2 Peter 3:13 NKJV). The Lord Jesus Christ will rule in the New Jerusalem with righteousness, and we will inhabit the entire earth for there will be no more sea. John tells us, “Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” Heaven in the form of the New Jerusalem will come down to the new earth. And that is where we are going to live. The Lord Jesus Christ will cleanse us, the body of believers, the church with the washing of water by the Word of God, “that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish” (Ephesians 5:27 NKJV). Then we will go on into eternity as the bride of Christ. This is the mystery that is being revealed to us by the Holy Spirit of God who dwells within us. It is so very wonderful that we are going to have this personal and intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ throughout eternity. Oh, that is going to be a glorious day. We will have new glorified bodies so that we can be with Christ and joined to Him for all eternity in the New Jerusalem where there will be no more tears, no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying, and no more pain. “For the former things have passed away,” and God said, “Behold, I make all things new.” We will be able to start a new, and we will be constantly growing in our understanding of God throughout eternity.
God Bless and have a great day in God’s Word.
